Idaho-Maryland Mine (IMM) DEIR Response from Banner Mountain Homeowners Association
As an integral part of the reopening the mine will be pumping 50 years of collected water out of the mine in order to operate.
Given that we are uphill from the mine, we are very concerned that many wells on the mountain could be affected. The IMMC did not provide ANY protection or mitigation for Banner Mountain residents for any affect on their wells due to this dewatering.
We commissioned 2 independent professional hydrogeologists, Steve Baker of Nevada City and Tom Myers of Reno to review the IMM DEIR and provide comments on our behalf. Our cover letter and their comments are available at the following three links:
What can you do?:
- Help us by contributing as much as you can (suggested donation of $100) to help us defray the cost of these hydrologists' reports. Send a check made out to BMHA to: BMHA, PO Box 833, Nevada City, CA 95959.
- Help us help you by renewing your membership for 2009 by sending a check for $15.00 payable to "BMHA" to: BMHA, PO Box 833, Nevada City, CA 95959.
- Continue to follow developments on this project at CLAIM-GV a group of local concerned citizens looking at how the reopening of the IMM would affect our environment.
